Position Summary

The Editor of Books superintendents the OI’s prestigious book series, co-published with the University of North Carolina Press. The Editor is primarily responsible for acquiring manuscripts, for substantive editing, and for supervising the books program and books program staff. Additional responsibilities include representing the OI at scholarly and other events, including conferences.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and significant or extensive professional level experience or specialized expertise.
• Demonstrated ability to assess and develop book manuscripts with potential for significant contribution to scholarship.
• Demonstrated editorial experience and strong communication skills.
• Experience in or demonstrated aptitude for managing a book program and its staff
• Experience in or aptitude for administration and management in higher education and scholarly publishing.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate degree in history or related humanities field preferred.

• Familiarity with the broad field of early American studies preferred.
