Position Summary

The Cashier will interact with Highland visitors in ticket sales, way-finding assistance, and sale of Museum Shop merchandise.

The Cashier also assists the Museum Shop Manager in daily operations of stocking and display of merchandise and light cleaning of display areas in the Museum Shop. Additional support responsibilities may be required.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge of retail operations including cash and credit card transactions. The ability to reconcile inventory and daily transaction reports.

Demonstrated ability to read, and write as well as follow oral and written instructions. The ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

Strong interpersonal skills with the willingness to provide excellent customer service. Proven ability to communicate effectively with the public as well as internal staff.

Previous experience with or familiarity of the Albemarle-Charlottesville area; with the ability to provide tourist information to visitors.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience working in retail sales and using a cash register. Familiarity with stocking of inventory and merchandise display.

Conditions of Employment:

This position is non-exempt and eligible to receive over-time for hour worked beyond 40 in a pay week. Overtime hours to be worked require pre-approval by supervisor.

This is a hourly position, not to exceed 1000 hours per year.

Some nights and weekend work is required.
