Position Summary

The Cashier will interact with Highland visitors in ticket sales, way-finding assistance, and sale of Museum Shop merchandise.

The Cashier also assists the Museum Shop Manager in daily operations of stocking and display of merchandise and light cleaning of display areas in the Museum Shop. Additional support responsibilities may be required.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge of retail operations including cash and credit card transactions. The ability to reconcile inventory and daily transaction reports.

Demonstrated ability to read, and write as well as follow oral and written instructions. The ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

Excellent communication skills with and a strong customer service orientation. Proven ability to communicate effectively with the public, with the ability to provide tourist information to visitors.

Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively internal staff.

Previous experience or familiarity of the Albemarle-Charlottesville area. Previous cash handling experience in a service oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge or familiarity in working with a POS system.

Previous experience working in retail sales and using a cash register. Familiarity with stocking of inventory and merchandise display.

This is a temporary position – up to a maximum of six (6) months. Some weekend and evening work is required.
