Position Summary

This position is responsible for assisting with the maintenance and necessary preparations of athletic fields and facilities for practices and sports events. The incumbent performs semi-skilled tasks, such as mowing and irrigation, event setup and breakdown, and small equipment operation and care. Designated service area includes William & Mary Hall, Zable Stadium, Busch Field, Dillard Field, Busch Courts, Albert-Daly Field, and Plumeri Park.

Required Qualifications

A valid driver’s license.
• Knowledge of grounds maintenance and turf equipment.
• Knowledge of techniques, tools, equipment and safety precautions involved with small equipment operation, including paint machines, lifts, and blowers.
• Light maintenance and carpentry skills.
• Demonstrated ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Must be able to meet physical requirements for the job: stand for prolonged periods of time; lift up to 50lbs; constantly push, pull, and carry items; walk up and down stairs, inclines and hills on a daily basis.
CPR/First Aid certification, or must obtain within six months of hire.
• Forklift certification, or must obtain within 60 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
• Grounds maintenance and small equipment operation experience preferred.

Conditions of Employment:

• Satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check is required.
• Subject to overtime, weekend work, extended hours. May be required to perform duties during periods of inclement weather conditions for extended periods of time.
• This position has been designated as essential and may require reporting to work when the college is officially closed.
• This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor. This position may require overtime to include schedule and unscheduled, nights and weekends and or holidays.
• Must be able to meet physical requirements for the job: stand for prolonged periods of time; lift up to 50lbs; constantly push, pull, and carry items; walk up and down stairs, inclines and hills on a daily basis.
• Must be able to maintain a drivers license.
CPR/First Aid certification, or must obtain within six months of hire.
• Forklift certification, or must obtain within 60 days of hire.
• This is a restricted position subject to availability of funding.
