Position Summary

This position assists the Director of Digital Marketing in the management and production of all forms of digital communication for the Office of University Advancement, including but not limited to social media, websites, and email marketing.

  • Create graphical and written content relevant to W&M and current events on a daily basis for all social media channels.
  • Oversee the graphic design, building, editing and writing of the emails as well as manage the email schedule
  • Engage with alumni and students on social media channels by responding to inquiries and driving followers to engage with each other in a thoughtful and respectful manner.
  • Assist in managing web content and architecture for Advancement websites
  • Work with the Director of Video and Multimedia to develop and share video assets and assist with photography and videography when necessary
Required Qualifications

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or the equivalent combination of education, training or experience.

COMPETENCIES

  • Working knowledge of Marketing and media strategies with the ability to generate new ideas, develop, affect, interpret, and implement social media and web plans and strategies.
  • Familiarity with software skills content management systems, project management methodologies, Adobe Creative Suite.
  • In depth understanding of HTML, CSS, development tools, social media management platforms and other related web technologies, with the ability to utilize a data-driven decision-making process to manage a content management strategy for Web, email, and social media.
  • Creativity, invention, imagination, originality, and talent in social media and web content management, with the ability to developing content for the web, social media and email marketing.
  • Strong problem solving skills, with the ability to work independently, effectively execute complex projects with minimal oversight, while exercising sound judgment performing all responsibilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with a great degree of flexibility, efficiency and initiative in work style with the ability to manage multiple and competing priorities in a deadline driven environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with university employees, donors, alumni, volunteers, third party vendors, and the general public

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in media and marketing strategies; producing media in a communications office/capacity.
  • Experience working with project stakeholders to develop or modify to applications or processes to solve/improve business processes.
  • Experience in managing CMS-based websites; and developing and maintaining web pages and web applications in a production environment.
  • Experience producing technical and functional specifications for applications, data, reports, lists or automated processes and developing those solutions.
Preferred Qualifications

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s in Marketing Public Relations, or a directly related field is highly preferred.
  • Certifications directly related to the position is a plus.

COMPETENCIES

  • Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, web and email design and social media.
  • Working knowledge in photography and/or videography production
  • Working knowledge of graphic design.
  • Working knowledge of AP style and editing conventions.
  • Knowledge of alumni, advancement, or student information systems.

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience with Adobe Experience Manager, and /or Salesforce Marketing Cloud (ExactTarget, Omniture, Radian6 and BuddyMedia.)
  • Experience working with marketing and communications departments is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with not-for-profit or higher education institutions is a plus.

  • This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor.
  • Flexibility is required to work occasional evenings and weekends around major activities or deadlines.
