Position Summary

The Department of Classical Studies at the College of William and Mary seeks applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Greek Language and Literature. We seek a broadly trained philologist who can provide evidence of outstanding potential in both research and teaching.

The successful applicant will be able to contribute to the wide range of courses we offer in Greek, Latin, and ancient cultures, while providing research mentorship for students at the advanced and post-baccalaureate levels. The precise area of specialty is open, but, other things being equal, preference will be given to scholars of ancient Greek poetry who can also introduce new courses dealing with issues of diversity and inclusion in the ancient world. The teaching load will be two courses per semester.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Ph.D in Classical Studies or a related field at the time of appointment, August 10, 2018.

Preferred Qualifications

Potential for research productivity as evinced by publications and/or conference presentations and previous teaching experience as instructor of record are preferred.
