Position Summary

The Department of English and the Africana Studies Program at William & Mary seek applications for a jointly appointed tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in African American and African diaspora literatures, with specialization in African American literature and culture of the nineteenth century and earlier. Teaching expectation is two courses per semester. In addition to developing new courses in African American and African diaspora literatures and culture for both the Department of English and the Program in Africana Studies, the successful candidate should be able to teach early Black literature courses for the Department of English. For the Program in Africana Studies, the successful candidate should be able to teach an interdisciplinary Africana Methodologies course, Introduction to Africana Studies and Introduction to African American Studies.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in English, Africana Studies or a related field at the time of appointment (August 10, 2018).

Preferred Qualifications

Undergraduate teaching experience is preferred.
