Position Summary

The Department of Modern Languages & Literatures at William & Mary seeks applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in Latin American Cultural Studies with expertise in Indigenous Cultures, from one of the following geographic areas: the Andes, the Caribbean, or the Mesoamerican region. This scholar would work primarily on pre-twentieth century cultures, but would also demonstrate an interest in issues that continue to be relevant today. The applicant is expected to establish and maintain an active research program that inspires a highly motivated undergraduate student body.
Teaching expectation is two courses per semester. The successful candidate will possess the skills to develop new courses in the area of Indigeneity, as well as teach current course offerings like Introduction to Hispanic Studies, Issues in Canon Formation, and our Capstone Seminars. Opportunities exist to contribute to our dynamic new general education curriculum ( and contribute to interdisciplinary program(s) like Latin American Studies.

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Spanish or a related field at the time of appointment August 10, 2018.
Candidates must possess the skills to teach Hispanic language and culture at all levels. Evidence of previous teaching experience and native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English are required.

Preferred Qualifications

Excellence in teaching and mentoring successful undergraduate research is preferred.
