Position Summary

The Development Associate will provide support to and work in collaboration with the Director of Development and the Dean of Libraries to execute a comprehensive development plan with measurable goals and outcomes, including engaging donors, alumni and volunteers through outreach, stewardship and special events. S/he will initiate, coordinate and successfully complete projects on deadline in support of W&M Libraries’ goals and priorities. S/he will work with colleagues, donors, alumni and volunteers to assist with donor engagement and produce consistent communications which cultivate and grow donor support. S/he will assist with donor and alumni focused special events and activities, and will take a lead role in coordinating select donor-centric events and outreach initiatives. S/he will coordinate with University Advancement regarding the priorities, activities and outreach of W&M Libraries. The Development Associate will support additional campaign and library priorities as necessary during the course of the Campaign for William & Mary.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in fundraising, donor relations, volunteer management, external relations, special event management or higher education.
• Demonstrated ability to problem-solve, with strong organizational, time management, verbal and written communication skills to take initiative to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to draft, edit and produce correspondence for internal and external audiences related to the goals and objectives of the libraries. A writing sample is required.
• Demonstrated computer and analytical skills to produce documents and reports using Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe products, Advance or similar donor management database, library databases and the web.
• Strong commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated interest in fundraising and donor engagement and a willingness to learn through educational opportunities and collaborating with other advancement professionals.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a diverse team. Must be detailed-oriented and have the ability to manage multiple priorities and communication streams while maintaining confidentiality.
• Experience managing day-to-day office operations and coordination of professional staff’s calendars.

Conditions of Employment:

• This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor.

• Occasional evening and weekend work outside of normal duty hours is required.

• This is a restricted position subject to availability of funding.
