Position Summary

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Assistant Director of Volunteer Engagement is responsible for the management of 5 classes, including 1 reunion class year as assigned by the Director.

Assistant Directors, Volunteer Engagement are charged with program modification for specific classes, volunteer engagement and management. The position is charged with class giving and alumni relations outreach to include volunteer training, class giving and key college-wide alumni engagement events, new initiatives and unit support.

Working under general direction, reporting to the Sr. Associate Director of Volunteer Engagement, the Assistant Director will develop and implement strategic plans to maximize dollars raised through, and participation in, William & Mary’s reunions.

Specific responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Heavy interaction with and support for William & Mary alumni and benefactors, direct solicitation and closure of reunion gifts. Maintain a portfolio of prospects with a targeted focus on the development and enhancement of the relationship with William & Mary.
  • Work directly with Classes on all aspects of class organization and development including reunions for a defined portfolio of classes (includes program development, advising class on financial needs and goals, organizing class programs and events and the development and implementation of class specific communication strategies).
  • Set up reunion campaigns through the volunteer management tool and train alumni involved with current volunteer campaigns.
  • Responsible for benchmarking, measuring and reporting pertaining to assigned classes. Analyze programs and make recommendations for program refinement.
  • Manage and analyze budgets for strategic use, transparency and future programming.
Required Qualifications

EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree with substantive experience or specialized expertise directly related to the position.

COMPETENCIES

  • Working knowledge of fundraising principles with the ability to reach aggressive goals.
  • Strong knowledge of volunteer management with the proven ability to manage and train volunteers.
  • Demonstrated creativity with the ability to develop goals and giving strategies for the alumni classes and coordinate effective alumni engagement opportunities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the proven ability to work effectively with a diverse constituency and collaboratively with colleagues from across the institution, while exercising discretion and diplomacy in all interactions.
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to produce solicitation-based and stewardship- based marketing and communication materials.
  • Proficiency in a variety of software applications to include MS Office and web-based applications and databases.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills with the ability to conduct assessments, analyze data and produce reports.
  • Strong problem solving skills with the ability to exercise sound judgments in making decisions or recommendations.
  • A high level of independence, with the ability to work effectively and successfully off campus with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple and complex tasks and projects concurrently.

EXPERIENCE

  • Demonstrated experience in academic fundraising, volunteer management or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications

EDUCATION
Advanced Degree (preferably a Master’s degree) in a related field is highly preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in higher education within alumni relations, fundraising or related field is highly preferred.
  • Volunteer management experience is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience as a reunion coordinator or officer is a plus.
