Position Summary

William & Mary Libraries is currently seeking a communications and volunteer management coordinator. We are seeking a person who is interested in capturing and communicating stories, educating our campus and broader community on the value of academic libraries, and promoting library resources, services, programs and events. Additionally the person in this new position will be responsible for creating and managing a coordinated volunteer program for the libraries – one of our strategic initiatives for 2017-2020. The successful candidate will join the libraries’ External Relations team that is responsible for internal and external communications, events, outreach and strategic initiatives.

Reporting to the Director of Communications & Strategic Planning, the communications and volunteer management coordinator will play a central role in communicating the role of university libraries in supporting student and faculty needs, as well as the overall vision, mission and brand of W&M Libraries. The candidate will need to have excellent interpersonal skills, as this person will be speaking and collaborating with students, faculty, staff, administration, donors and alumni for news stories and other projects; meeting and communicating with volunteers from the community; and collaborating with a number of university departments such as Advancement, Communications, Web and Design, and Events and demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity and inclusion.

Some of the responsibilities of this position include:
• Conceptualize and draft impactful multi-media communication products, channels and vehicles; develop campaigns, products and strategic dissemination and outreach plans.
• Coordinate the libraries’ participation in the university’s volunteer engagement initiative; manage volunteer communication, training and placement.
• Manage the libraries’ social media presence to include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
• Manage communications during events, to include photography, social media posts, video, live streaming, etc.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism, communications, English, marketing or a related field or a combination of education and experience.
• Experience in marketing, public relations, communications and/or volunteer management
• Excellent writer with the ability to produce clear, concise and professional communications
• Knowledge of AP style; strong computer proficiency with a variety of software programs (MS Word and Excel)
• Familiarity with social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube
• Demonstrated ability to problem-solve, with strong organizational, time management, verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with a content management system, such as Drupal or Cascade.
• Demonstrated project management experience.
• Experience with marketing automation platforms such as MailChimp or Constant Contact
• Photography and/or videography skills
• Graphic design skills and knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite or similar software

Advertised Pay Range $35,000 to $40,000, commensurate with experience

Conditions of Employment:

This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor.
