Position Summary


The Events Coordinator at Swem Library will develop, plan, manage, and coordinate the educational, outreach, and cultural programming conducted throughout William and Mary Libraries, including those sponsored by Swem Library and other support groups, as well as those developed in collaboration with other units at William and Mary.

The incumbent will manage large events and coordinate other, smaller programs developed by departmental staff within Swem Library for staff development or to fulfill specific outreach mission needs, such as classes and workshops. The incumbent will oversee assigned events (from managing the planning & production and all phases to ensure the event runs smoothly) and will resolve issues effectively within the planning stages and during the event itself.

Required Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with event coordination and management, volunteer management, or donor relations.
• Demonstrates strong problem solving skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgment when making decisions or recommendations.
• Demonstrates attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
• Demonstrates outstanding interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as a team player.

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree credentials in arts, business, management, non-profit management, public relations, writing and composition, and/or marketing preferred.
• Experience working in a culturally diverse environment highly preferred. Experience working in higher education preferred

This is a temporary position.

This position is a temporary (hourly) position not to exceed 6 months. All hourly employees are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program and total hours worked may not exceed on average 29 hours per week, over the course of a twelve month period beginning May 1 each year.

This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor.
