Position Summary

Information Technology (IT) is responsible for providing, promoting, and servicing a modern technology infrastructure for the William and Mary. IT is a service-based organization providing faculty, staff, and students with the necessary tools and resources to maximize the teaching and learning experience. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability develop strategies to support the college needs. The ideal candidate will also have strong interpersonal skills with the proven ability to work collaboratively within a team and interface successfully with business leaders campus wide.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Working with a team of IT professionals, reporting to to the Director of Data Management, the Business Intelligence Developer will develop, implement, and maintain systems and strategies to support the college’s business intelligence, data-driven decision making, and data integration requirements.

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Participate in the development of business cases and requirements gathering including conducting user interviews, documenting use cases, and ensuring requirements for reporting and visualization needs are met.
  • Employ best practices in developing reporting and business intelligence applications to meet business process needs, and in the on-going maintenance and enhancements of reporting, business intelligence and analytic applications (from ad hoc data discovery to large-scale system implementations).
  • Participate in the assessment, improvement and governance of quality and use of data assets.
  • Participate in data governance and stewardship initiatives to ensure responsibilities for content owners are clearly defined and communicated, data metadata and metrics definitions are clearly documented, and that there is clear understanding among stewards and consumers of data.
  • Design, build, and deliver value-added, high quality reporting, business intelligence, dashboard and analytic solutions.
  • Design, build, and maintain data integrations across cloud and on-premise software systems.
Required Qualifications

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field with substantive experience or specialized expertise directly related to the position.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Proficiency in SQL, data warehousing, business intelligence tools, reporting tools, or visualization and data discovery tools (e.g, Tableau, Qlikview).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability develop strategies to support the college needs, troubleshoot software issues as well as support others in problem resolution.
  • Demonstrated research and technical writing skills; with the ability to research new technologies and recommend technical solutions to management.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with team members and effectively support application / database users in a professional manner.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple and competing tasks.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in data warehousing, business intelligence, and data analytics or applications programming and reporting in a relational database environment.
  • Experience in design, development, implementation of dashboards and BI applications or other web-based database applications.
  • Experience with reporting and data extraction in a relational database environment.
  • Experience with relational databases, APIs, and database programming languages.
Preferred Qualifications

COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong understanding of Master Data Management and ETL processing Is highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of multiple data discovery tools and analytics tools is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of QlikSense or QlikView data visualization tools is highly desirable.
  • Data Modeling skills is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of Salesforce CRM is a plus.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience implementing or working with Banner or other higher education enterprise-wide system is highly preferred.
  • Experience with large database systems is highly desirable.
  • Experience using Master Data Management tools, advanced analytics tools, or multiple data discovery tools is desirable.
  • Experience using QlikSense, QlikView, or Qlik nPrinting to develop BI applications.
  • Experience with data analysis, trending and KPI development.
  • Experience with ETL processing between on-premise and cloud software solutions.
  • Experience with Oracle Databases and PL/SQL.
  • Experience with ETL processing for Salesforce CRM is a plus.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment is a plus.
