Position Summary

Assistant Director, Direct Marketing reports to the Director of Direct Marketing and plays a key supportive role as part of the Direct Marketing team. The Assistant Director, Direct Marketing administers and coordinates specialized direct marketing efforts within the Lifetime Philanthropic Engagement & Annual Giving (LPE&AG) Office.
The position will support Constituent Unit partners and fellow Direct Marketing team members to implement each programs’ annual giving direct marketing communications across direct mail, email, telethon and new media channels based on industry best practices and strategic innovation.
Core Responsibilities include:

  • Manage relationship with direct response (mail) vendor, external designer partners and other external sources.
  • Serves as liaison between vendor and College, communicate project needs, resolve questions and provide data and information to vendor. Oversee proof management of proofing process for vendor and in-house projects.
  • Serves as project manager for direct marketing efforts for internally and externally produced mailings. i.e.(setting timelines, create data preparation, tracking project progress and identifying and resolving road blocks).
  • Develops reports and analyzes results of both vendor,and in-house projects as well as future planning.
Required Qualifications

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree required with substantive experience or specialized expertise directly related to the position.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Knowledge of donor/constituent database systems.
    Strategic vision and demonstrated ability to create, develop and manage a complex and sophisticated production plan, to include multiple outlets and avenues.
  • Proven ability and desire to reach aggressive goals, innovate with commitment to high performance.
  • Superior planning and organizational skills, with the independent ability to initiate, organize, follow through with program plans and meet deadlines required.
  • Proficiency with a variety of software applications (Specifically, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical skills, with the demonstrated ability to analyze data, extract meaningful conclusions and report findings.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills with the ability to proof read and edit documents in a variety of formats.
  • Must have strong work ethic, commitment to team work and the willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues across campus.
  • Proven ability to work effectively and successfully with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the proven ability to manage projects of multiple complexity concurrently.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated experience in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint.
  • Experience working in a fundraising position.
Preferred Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • Advanced degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Related certifications a plus.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Familiarity with Advance database, or other relational database system.
  • Advanced writing skills and analysis is a plus.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in direct marketing production within a higher education setting is highly preferred.
  • Experience planning and implementing integrated direct marketing campaigns, analyzing results and sharing key take-aways. Practiced understanding of generating reports and manipulating data is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated editing and writing experience is also highly desirable.
