Position Summary

The Executive Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR) is responsible for building a dynamic CFR Program that can secure an increasing level of support for institutional priorities.
Reporting to the Associate VP for Development / Campaign Director, the Executive Director will work strategically with university leadership and constituent programs to successfully meet corporate and foundation annual goals as well as the goals of a near future capital campaign.
Specific responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Develop and manage key corporate and foundation relationships to secure gifts for the university.
  • Maintain a high level of activity with regard to the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of corporate and foundation prospects and donors, utilizing this pace of activity as an example for direct reports to follow.
  • Set annual goals for each member of the CFR team along with substantive targets for travel, contacts, and proposal delivery. Mentor and train direct reports to incorporate successful practices in their professional interactions.
  • Assess the strategies in place for corporate and foundation prospects, to ensure distribution of necessary follow-up reports and letters and to direct the coordination of appropriate gift announcements.
Required Qualifications

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree with extensive and progressively responsible professional experience and specialized expertise

COMPETENCIES:

  • Ability to effectively interact and initiate relationships with the business and foundation community.
  • Aptitude to understand complex research and related application with proven ability for translation into dynamic corporate and foundation proposals.
  • Demonstrated analytical, research, written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to meet project deadlines and maintain productive professional relationships.
  • Ability to work with deans and faculty on complex research and proposals.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regionally and nationally as required and to work weekends and evenings as necessary.
  • Must be a team player who enjoys working collaboratively and demonstrates initiative, creativity, sound judgement and discretion.
  • Proven ability and desire to reach aggressive goals.
  • Significant organizational skills and an ability to handle multiple and complex tasks and projects concurrently.
  • High level of independence and ability to work effectively and successfully off-campus and without close supervision.
  • Strategic vision to create and manage the Corporate and Foundation Relations team to harness the potential of the larger community toward engagement and philanthropic goals.
  • Fluency in using persuasive language to promote visionary gift opportunities

EXPERIENCE:

  • Significant experience negotiating corporate and foundation partnerships, preferably in an academic setting, or in a related and relevant corporate or foundation setting.
  • Significant and progressively responsible experience in academic fundraising or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications

EDUCATION:
An Advanced Degree (preferably a Master’s degree) in a related field is highly preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • Extensive experience negotiating successful corporate and foundation partnerships, preferably in an academic setting, or in a related and relevant corporate or foundation setting.
  • Extensive and progressively responsible experience in academic fundraising or a related field.
  • Extensive experience partnering with research teams and grant-giving organizations.
  • Significant management experience leading a corporate and/or foundation program is highly desired.
  • Experience in a comprehensive campaign in a higher ed setting.
