Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to conduct research on how marshes respond to sea level rise, with emphases on how humans influence coastal transgression, sediment transport, and carbon cycling. The person in this position will interact with students, and also develop independent research topics consistent with the the goals of the coastal wetlands group.

Required Qualifications

*A PhD in an environmental related field (e.g. geology, biology, environmental science), or in a computational related field (e.g. physics, engineering) coupled with experience in environmental applications is required at the time of appointment.
*A general knowledge of how systems respond to global change, including some combination of biological, hydrological, and geological processes.
*Strong quantitative skills, with an emphasis on numerical modeling
*Proven research background with strong writing ability evidenced by submitted or published journal articles.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include knowledge of Matlab, GIS/remote sensing, advanced modeling abilities, and field and lab methods associated with coastal environments, ecohyrdology, and/or carbon cycling. Experience with some combination of the following is preferred but not required: coastal sediment transport, eco-geomorphology, coupled human-natural systems, or wetland migration into uplands.
